THE AFRICAN MUSEUM OF COLLECTIVE WISDOM

The African Museum of Collective Wisdom is a different kind of museum; part archive and part exhibition. It is a living archive that exists to hold the stories, knowledge, and cultural memory of Africa and its Diaspora. The museum is built on the belief that our past matters, our present has power, and our future is something we create together.

Rooted in African ways of knowing, we collect and curate the tangible and intangible: oral histories, artistic expressions, cultural artifacts, community wisdom, and visionary practices that honor the past, present, and future. Like any museum, we collect, preserve, and share heritage; educate and inspire communities; and facilitate dialogue and understanding. We gather what might otherwise be lost as the world evolves.

Through digital archives, exhibitions, participatory installations, and community programs, the Museum creates space for memory, creativity, and dialogue across generations and geographies.

The Museum is housed by the Bakani Foundation. By collecting, preserving, and showcasing African and Diasporic legacies and innovations, the museum directly supports the foundation’s mission of harnessing the power of education, dialogue, culture, and the arts to reimagine Africa and the Diaspora.

Founder and Creative Director, Lynette Sifiso, curates and manages the museum.
